Practicing TRE

What is T.R.E.?

T.R.E., or Tension/Trauma Release Exercises, is a practice that is separate from, but complementary to, somatic coaching.

Created by Dr. David Berceli, T.R.E. is a series of exercises that stretch and fatigue muscles from the feet to the psoas, eventually activating the body’s natural tremouring mechanism that releases stress and tension stored in the body.

Animals in the wild can be observed shaking and tremouring after a life-threatening incident as a way of releasing energy from the “fight or flight” nervous system. As mammals, humans have access to this shaking mechanism, but it has been socialized out of us.

Anyone can learn and use this simple and effective tool. With regular practice one can become more attuned to understanding when their nervous system is “holding a charge”, and can use the technique to return to a more restful state whenever they need it.

T.R.E. can bring big shifts in people's lives, including reduced anxiety, better sleep, greater emotional resiliency, increased energy, less stress, reduced pain and discomfort, and relief from chronic medical conditions.

By tapping into the body's innate healing wisdom, T.R.E. empowers individuals to take charge of their own health and well-being.
